Lesson: 2 - Recap of Open office – Spreadsheet

Purpose : To recall about spreadsheet and formula ( To find total, pass/fail, rank etc..).

Materials Required

Computer or Laptop.

Prior knowledge

Students should have already learnt Spreadsheets with OpenOffice Calc and be able to recall basic operations.

Exercise:1



  1. Create a new spreadsheet in which you have to create a mark list of a class, then find total, pass/fail, rank (using formula), change and change the row colour to red for those who got a fail mark. Also find the overall percentage for each student. Copy the modified mark sheet to another computer using a pendrive.

As the students will take too much time to type the mark list, give them this mark list. (Without total, result and rank).

  • Teacher's Instruction
    1. Teachers should encourage the students to recollect all the technical names. Eg: Row, column, cell, name box, formula bar etc.
    2. Recall basic formulas for 4 ops, sum, average, max, min etc.
    3. Recall all the things the students learnt last year with Spreadsheets. Some of the things that are not included in this lesson should also be recalled like insert/delete row/column.
    4. In addition to recalling how Spreadsheets work, also recall where they can be used: Storing marksheets, timetable, accounts etc.
